Infrared

This is my gallery of Infrared pictures. Many digi-cams are sensitive to infrared light and so does my Canon Powershot S40. Infrared photographs are quite interesting because the light is totally different. Many areas that are dark in visible light are bright in infrared. Especially plants reflect infrared light very good and look very bright in the direct sunlight (sometimes like snow). The sky is darker and clouds are very contrasty.

If you want to test your digi cams infrared sensitivity then take your tv or stereo remote control and hold the infrared emitter towards the camera lens. If you see the emitter light up on the display of your digi cam while pressing buttons on the remote control then you cam can be used for infrared photographie.

To get infrared images you have to use a filter that filters all light except the infrared part. These filters are looking red or black and you cannot see through them.
